Wow, it's been over a month. It's been so long since I've logged into Weebly that I couldn't remember my password. This is not good and and it is something I need to rectify. Thankfully I have one race to recap now and another one in less than a week, so I will have good reason to write.
Last week I got a MUCH needed 5 day break from school. I literally heard angels singing a round of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus as I drove away last Tuesday afternoon. Immediately I got to work getting my house and kitchen ready for Thanksgiving as we were going to be having 18 hungry mouths to feed on Thursday. Thanks to my wonderful husband and his help, we got a ton done on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday morning, so we were able to get our annual Mike and Amanda's Day Before Thanksgiving Turkey Trot in.

I know we look like we're cute and happy here, but don't let those smiles fool you. It really sucked. Snow and sleet and cold puddles were all over on the Millenium Trail. It was miserable. 3 miles in we were able to get off the trail and get 4 miles in on the dry pavement. But then it was 3 more back to the car. The bright spot was that we were together. We hadn't really had a date in while, so that was it. And we banked some calories for the next day.
The next morning, I woke up at 6am. I got one of my turkeys out of the brine and I went to Mchenry East High School to pick up the packet for my son and I to do the Mchenry Turkey Trot for Hospice. I sailed right into the gym to get our bibs and shirts and got back home to get Turkey #1 into the oven. Closer to the 8am race time, I got my 8 year old and we headed back to the high school and to the start line.

The Running Depot sponsored me for this race, but what was also extremely cool is that when I went to go register, I found that you could also register kids 8 and under for free! How cool is that?!? The money raised for this race goes right to Journey Care Hospice services, which is a great cause. But for a family of 4 to sign up for the race, the total would be $120. With the option for the younger kids to race for free, the morning is a family affair and more people can probably sign up since they don't need a sitter to race.
I love running with my son. It's a really special thing that we can do together and I love that he likes to do these races.
The weather was cold and you could smell and feel the chill of not-quite freezing rain in the near future. It took a couple of minutes to get across the mat, but soon we were off.
This course went out of the high school parking lot, turned left on John St., and jogged around the golf course. We turned right along the river to a turn around. There was a water stop at about 1.25 and then 1.75. It was a really scenic route even despite the dreary weather. The best part of the entire race was that there were so many families running together. I was so impressed with the positive attitudes and range of ages I saw at this event. I think we may have to make this race a yearly tradition!

This next weekend I will join the ranks of hundreds of other crazy...like-minded friends running 3.1 miles in Santa suits for the Kiwanis Santa Run in Crystal Lake. I've never run this race but have heard great things about it! That last two years it's been unseasonably warm...fingers crossed....
Thank you so much for reading! I'm really looking forward to getting back onto the blogging bandwagon. I sincerely and severely need to...more on that next time. Have a great week, friends! And THANK YOU The Running Depot!
